A Garden of Hair | Creative Collaboration with Joli Jardin

Finally!! We’ve been waiting months to share this creative session with you. We submitted to a publisher and swore them a period of exclusivity that recently ended. A little bit behind the concept… We have been following BadRabbitFlowers on Instagram and have been wholely inspired by their work of florals and photography. Asia is a frequent model for me in the studio and I immediately thought about her amazing curls and the feminity and power of flowers for women. I also came across the shoes while scrolling Facebook late one night. The colors came from them, even though they were eventually outshined by everything else.

This set was done with real florals which made working fast a priority in the Tennessee heat. Our stylist, Mary Beth, and makeup artist Micah Hubbard brought their A-game when pulling this all together. Mary Beth was fantastic at steering me in the right direction with the chopped-up vision I tried to relay to her. And I gave Micah creative control of the makeup and she killed it.

Joli Jardin is, of course, behind the florals of this. Our first plans were to shoot this in the studio but then ran into difficulties of height and ability to secure the florals. We then decided to move the party to the alleyway and initially planned on using the red brick siding of our building. BUt Becca (a former photographer herself) spotted the white brick. We got permission from the neighbors and got to work securing the florals. Erin really designed the exact piece I dreamed of. The yellows, the pops of color, and the shape were all perfect.

Asia arrived and worked the camera, as always. Below are the tear sheets from the publication in a small photography magazine where we were featured.

We are so excited for the opportunity to share our work with the photography community and even more excited to share it with our Chattanooga Community.
