Our First Virtual Shoot

A few months ago I stumbled upon an Instagram post that mentioned virtual shooting for a branding session. I had heard of a few photographers doing virtual sessions in Chattanooga, and heck, across the US, as a way to stay busy during the pandemic. But I had no idea that it had continued. But it makes sense right? As camera and phone technology lunge forward at warp speed, photographers are losing more and more of our value shoppers to selfies and the best friend special. I mean, posing, lighting, and image quality will always beat out a cell phone, but for some things, a cell phone picture is just fine. Especially as Instagram feeds replace our wall prints. So I decided to hire a photographer out of the UK and be the subject of a virtual shoot. It was a confidence booster for sure, and I’ll share those in another post in the future. But I began to turn my wheels. While virtual photography doesn’t fit my current business model or brand, it definitely has some potential. So I drafted a new logo and am in the early stages of launching Remote Headshots. We will focus on improving the virtual experience, educating the masses, and offering a bridge between triggering your own phone and having your husband snap a few quality shots. The most used place I see personal cell phone photos that are trying to pass for professionals is in the headshot and branding sector, so that is what I decided to focus this venture on. We are one shoot in and it’s only our assistant, but we are on our way to something. Remember to start scared and unprepared, it’s the closest way to get to where you want to be.
